Many schools are engaged in all or partial distance learning. This does not reduce the need for volunteer or philanthropic support. In fact, it is critical to remind parents your school must be sustained through the commitment of time and money from its friends.
ISM recommends creating and using a “Guide to Giving and Getting Involved” this year to maintain the volunteer and philanthropic engagement that you need. This guide introduces new families to your school’s philanthropic culture, while also reminding your returning families their voluntary and philanthropic participation is critical to your success.
Here’s how to create your “Guide to Giving and Getting Involved”.
Make your publication accessible electronically, and mail if your budget allows. Families may be more interested in printed materials because “online burnout” is affecting digital communication negatively.
Include remote volunteer opportunities. Class parent chats on Zoom, trivia nights, book clubs, etc., are ways volunteers can help without having to be on campus.
Remind your patrons the importance of giving. Describe how giving helps maintain the quality of your programs and enhances offerings that fulfill your mission. Monetary support is especially important when adjusting to the requirements of teaching during a pandemic.
Include a special section in your “Guide to Giving and Getting Involved” highlighting school changes. You can use this information to bolster your case for giving. Tell stories reflecting the success your students are having in the classroom. For example: “our ability to deliver quality online instruction is only possible because of your gifts to the annual fund.”
